Sunday feb 16

Yeah I started all about spelling with Genevieve!   I'm not sure why but this program intimidated me!  It seemed so teacher intensive and the first lesson so boring.  But we did it, I think it should be ok, we just have to dedicate a little time each day to this, I would really like to help her in her writting.

Next Genevieve wanted to work on her just write book, I realize that I should have started on book1, she likes this book, but it is more than she knows.  Today she worked on subject and predicates.  I'm not even sure why we need to know these things, but I'm not a great writer, I'm sure it makes sence for learning a foreign language.  In writing though, I think the knowledge of having both a subject and predicate in your sentence is reached by osmosis from speaking.  Not sure why you actually have to know the official names.  I think the big word predicate scares her, it scares me lol.

Next we all covered day 2 of lesson 1 in our literature unit tornado.  We discussed life on a farm, and how different are lives would be.  We discussed how hard working a farm is.  We also talked about farming in ancient Egypt, since we are studying that in story of the world.  Nathan is reading a book that talked about the hardships of being a farmer in ancient Egypt.

We talked about setting and what it means and what the setting for the book tornado is about.

Genevieve's work in just write.

We had some friends over, I had to think of some things to occupy three high energy boys.

We played a few games

We built a satelight dish with kinex.  They played with the mag blocks building different things.  And had a tower building competition with keva planks.

    1. That was actually Genevieve trying to figure out how to draw a question mark :)

  2. The K'nex seems to be a great way to build fine motor strength while still having fun.

I've driven through tornado weather on a trip through the States. It's incredibly eerie to see the sky turn an odd shade of green and look like a ceiling of cloud was starting to lower. My aunt in Kansas has had to be in charge of the tornado siren in the past. It's interesting to extend the learning past just what makes a tornado cloud and more about tornado alley.
