Friday February 14

Nathan had a rough nite last night waking up with a massive headache.  We were up from 1-3.  I decided to let him sleep in this morning instead of going to tla class.   I waited until around 11 to start school work today.  We finished up our lesson 1 from yesterday on science.  We then continued on to lesson 2 in science.  We learned about what causes weather, how it all relates to the earth. How the heating of the water by the sun creates water vapour, how the heated air rising up and cooler air filling it's place causes wind.  We learned about the different layers of our atmosphere, we demonstrated with an apple that the peel of the apple is thicker than out atmosphere.  We used our Latin knowledge when discussing the layers of the atmosphere, to decipher what they meant.  Science took us about 1.5 hrs today.  Once we get going it's hard to stop, it's amazing how interconnected everything is.  I did want to start lesson 2 on tornado today, but we didn't.  I looked it over and it looks like it may be a shorter lesson.  Perhaps we will do it tomorow.

Nathan had a pretty bad headache on and off today.  We did manage to get to ot today in Abby, I was tempted to call in but thought it would be good to do some things today.  We skipped Genevieve's tumble time at twisters today though.

I am liking how the kids are learning and learning to love to learn again!

One thing I really like about the moving beyond the page curriculum is that it asks engaging questions. The questions you ask are not exactly rote memorization of what you have read ( well some are).  But I'm finding a lot of questions you have to really understand what you have learned to give an answer.  One question today Genevieve said well you never talked about that or gave us the answer.  Nathan quickly piped up and said well yes she did, you just have to take this and that and get your answer from it.

Genevieve's learning style is definitely the perfect student, she would ace every test in school :).  Nathan on the other hand would be bored out of his mind I think not being able to know it all in depth.  The kids are both loving school right now so I hope it can stay this way.  Genevieve is asking me all the time to do school work, and Nathan is getting engaged!

  1. Hi Marcy,

I love hearing the way Nathan can take the information and infer the answers. I'm learning a lot about your science topics as I read the blog entries!
