Bookwork? Very little this week

Thursday was math day.   That's pretty much all we accomplished.   Nathan worked with Jeff on his new unit, doing both perimeter and area.  I think this is a better unit for him, but he is still fighting it.

Gigi completed unit 27.

I was going to start into the big woods but, Jeff had promised nathan a game of road hockey if he finished the unit.   What Jeff didn't realize is that would leave us no time to do anything else as it was already 11 and we have to leave at 12.

So physio and music for Gigi.

Friday was a trip to never land farms.  We did a farm tour in the morning.   This was interesting but I wish it was more.  Nathan and Gigi got to milk a goat, which was pretty neat.  Nathan was concerned he would hurt the goat.   We arrived at 9 am and we were done around 10:30, we then had to wait until 12:30 for cheese making.  I hadn't slept well the last 2 nights so all I wanted to do was go home.

I have no idea what she was thinking but you can see she is not getting near anything dirty...

Nathan thinking this must hurt the goat...

We stayed for cheese making.   It was interesting for the kids to see the complete process but I wish it was more hands on.

Saturday

Cheer in Abby 9:30-11
Soccer in chilliwack 10-11:15

Thankful Jeff was home!

  1. Wonderful to have Jeff help out! I am actually trying to teach area and perimeter of squares to my gr.5 student. It's a tough concept. I am using sewing as an analogy (how many pieces of string do you need to go around the square and how many pieces of fabric/carpet would you need to cover it). Sure helps to have someone else take a go at these tough concepts!

I haven't seen cheese making before - that looks really neat.

  2. we drew it out on a lined 100 board, this helped visualize it I think. He had irregular polygons which he had to figure out the unknown measurements of different sides. so if one side was 10 cm, and the other side directly across was irregular, and it was 4 cm, then went up 2 cm, how many cm did it go over. so he had to see that both sides were the same and he had to do 10-4. he did not do great on this working with jeff, but he did well on it today working at piano lessons.
