Sick sick sick

Still sick over here, nathan is feeling a lot better today then yesterday though.  Thank goodness.  I knew that would happen after I made his drs appt.

Genevieve is doing the written portion of her FSA today.  I am a little frustrated with her because she has refused to do a rough draft before she writes her story down.   I have no idea why???  We always write our stories and essays in processes so think of idea, write, then look at it and think if sentence structure and ideas to see if anything needs to be added moved.  Then check for spelling and punctuation and rewrite.  She is claiming she is doing all of this in her head.  Ugggg.  Let it go let it go the FSA don't really matter... Let it go don't turn this into a screaming match...FSA aren't worth that.  I am sitting in the other room drinking tea and writing a blog post to lament about Genevieve's willfulness.

I have organized rides for Genevieve to get to cheer and back, a complicated process as she is on a few teams today so she needs a ride in with 1 mom, then when she is done she needs to wait for a couple of the older girls up be fine at 8:30 so she can get a ride home with them few...

We are supposed to deliver papers today as well.  I think nathan will stay in the car and Gigi can deliver and then our friends said they could help at 3 pm.

Monday, 22 February 2016

Well I bet you thought I would post all the things we have accomplished!

Well who would think 6 weeks later we would still be sick?

Genevieve still has dark circles, but seems to be able to keep up with activities but is just not quite able to do it at the level she is used to

Nathan well he seemed to be better until he wasn't.  He started to go downhill on Thursday.   Friday was worse, Saturday was the worst.  Nathan was only awake for a total of 2 hours all day Saturday.  He awoke at 4 am Saturday morning with a migraine.  Jeff gave him some tylenol and he tried to sleep.  He was having the spinning room/antigravity feeling, again.   He slept most of Sunday as well but was up more.  Monday morning he has spent laying in the bath tub.  We cancelled vision therapy.  It is now Monday afternoon and he has regained some energy and is feeling well enough to have a little grumpiness in him.  Jeff took both kids to play tennis, not sure how long that will last but I figured the fresh air will be good for them.

School work.

Well not much has been done this week, Wednesdays are very little, but they completed a math lesson, I also kept Genevieve home from hockey and she completed the online portion of the reading for her FSA.  She said it was easy but just when she thought she would be done there was another passage to complete.  She also didn't like some of the questions she said they were asking for opinions and Genevieve said that opinions should not be wrong.

Thursday

I honestly don't remember what we did!  It must have involved some work though...  Genevieve completed the math portion if her FSA.  She again said it was easy.  I let her use a calculator as the test said she could.  It was her first time using a calculator, I hope that did not mess her up any.   I am kind of curious now to see what kind of mark she gets on this test now though as she thought it was way to easy.  I think it may be interesting to see what she scored as I am pretty sure I have probably missed a bunch of stuff teaching her as we have flown all around with math.

Friday.

Again I don't remember what we did, I think Jeff and nathan were pretty sick.

Genevieve made egg salad sandwhiches in rice paper for lunch

Saturday cheer, nathan was too sick for soccer

Sunday - Genevieve did a top secret adventure -India, I could not find France.

She also made black bean brownies for dinner.

Please let the rest of the week be sickness free!  I am so done and I don't think I can handle cleaning up anymore people throwing up!!!

Tuesday February 16

Morning time

Nathan was up early, but Genevieve slept in a little this morning.  We had a relaxed start to the day.  I woke up this morning with a cup of tea from Nathan.  He had already made himself scrambled eggs for breakfast.  Genevieve made herself a sandwich for breakfast.

Language Arts

So I know we are working 2 weeks behind on my master schedule thanks to the nasty flu, but I am slowly getting us back to work.  We worked more on lesson 1 of Hugo Cabret.  We completed the excercises for day 1 and day 2 of lesson 1.  Genevieve and I need to work on her need to have everything to the best of her abilities.  There were a couple of assignments that she was not supposed to proofread, and just do a quick job of.  Nathan and Genevieve had watched a video on Paris on the way to vision therapy yesterday, and today they were supposed to write a travel itinerary of what they would like to visit in Paris.  This was supposed to be quick like 5 minutes.  But Genevieve insisted she needed to also do research in order to write this.  She also wanted to complete both assignments for this one, and she was supposed to just pick 1.  She wants to do it all but she really has no time to do it all.  I am slowly trying to get her to prioritize, and also manage her time that she has better.

This is an assignment from the last book we did My Side of the Mountain.  She had to write a newspaper article
It would have been much easier if our printer was working properly, having a hard time printing colour

Hmm I see a missing capital... I guess I should have proofread it...

I had no idea what a tiercel, or eyasses were before Genevieve told me.  I did know what a fledgling was though.  She does like to do research.  And apparently falcons are female?  I am not sure what the males are called...

Todays work finishing a vocabulary sheet

Genevieve, we had to look up a few of these words, as the meanings are pretty close, we discussed using correct words in our writing and how we can use fewer words with the correct word

Nathan, we also discussed how we can try and figure out the meaning of words by looking at clues such as prefixes and suffixes.

These are the travel itineraries

I insisted she had to write this and not type it out, she was not happy with me, I envisioned all sorts of things when she wanted the computer, we need this to be a quick little write up

Nathan's was quick :)

Another assignment was writing a story to go with one of these pictures.  This was supposed to be a quick story without any proofreading, you were just supposed to free write it.
Genevieve chose the top picture, Nathan the bottom, and both their stories are gruesome, seriously what kind of children am I raising???

Nathan's

Genevieves story.  I guess she must think of sentence structure while she is proofreading :)

Piano

Nathan has decided he likes scales, go figure, so her practiced those today

vision

Nathan reminded me we had to do his vision exercises, we had to take a little break in between as his eyes were hurting, doing the exercises.

Piano lessons

Genevieve is coming along nicely with her voice, she has a two words she needs to work on pronunciation (german)  She also is a little wobbly on the end of her secret garden musical.

Nathan - has a song he is playing that he likes, so we will have to try and encourage Nathan to play this song

math

both worked on Math independently today, as I decided I should take the time to do taxes.

Park

It was so beautiful outside today that we decided to go to the park after piano for about an hour, Nathan brought his remote control truck.  Genevieve ran around with ginger, and I sipped my tea.

Cheer

5-7:30

nathan went to grandma and grandpas to hang out and I went to costco, and then watched Genevieve.

Hello, we are still alive

Well that has taken us a while to recover!  Flu ran through our house for a week.  Nathan was so sick that he could not take his beta blockers.  I almost took him to the ER at midnight because he was so scared.  He felt like he was falling up, he felt like he was being pushed up into his ceiling, everything was spinning.  I have never seen him look so scared, he was holding on to the bed with death like grip.  I managed to calm him down and reassure him that he was not being pushed up.   He was able to relax, and end up going to sleep even though he was still feeling the spinning and weird antigravity feeling.  I am not sure if this was dehydration, migraine, or betablocker issue.  He woke up feeling much better the next day.  Genevieve was pretty unwell all week, but managed to make every cheer practice, Nathan and I dropped her off and hung out in the car and watched her with puke buckets handy incase we needed them.  We made beds up and got cozy for 3 hours every night, because gigi had extra cheer practices.   She managed to make it through 20 hours of cheer  being sick.

Monday

Family day we went up to manning park with Simonne, Tyler and Cody.  Genevieve stayed with grandma and grandpa, as she decided she could use the rest.   We went on a guided snow shoe with the Hope mountain centre.  We had some great guides, one was a native ecology specialist, and shared some great information with us as we hiked along.  Kids got to go in a snowcave, and try snowcream.  After the hike we went tobogganing,  played some icehockey and roasted some hotdogs.  So much fun!

Tuesday

Tuesday morning Nathan completed a math lesson on his own, Genevieve and I concentrated on her voice, as she hasn't had time to practice.  They each completed a math lesson while the other was at Piano lessons.  Cheer 5-7:30

Wednesday

Math in the morning
physio
music - Genevieves song sounds so good!  I have to secretly record it as she wont let me, and I so want to share it with you.
Hockey - Genevieve skipped hockey as she needed to work on her script which she did for about 1/2 hour.  She also needed to have a little down time and recover from illness.
CSOPA

Thursday -

Jessica came in the morning do do an art lesson, Nathan and Genevieve recorded their stop motion video on the falcon food chain
Delivered papers
Lesson 1 Hugo Cabret
Cheer 4-7:30
Ballet - We went to go see Ballet Jorgen's Sleeping Beauty.  This ballet was at the cultural centre in chilliwack, we have been the last three years now, and they are a wonderful ballet company!  The kids enjoyed their interpretation of the book, Genevieve has asked to get books from the library of other classic books  in their original form.  I had gotten The little Mermaid for her to read for Lesson 2 of Hugo Cabret, so I am sure we will be discussing the differences.

Friday -

ugg you know how tired Nathan is when he gets to bed late, Nathan slept in.  We also spent the morning making valentines cards for the valentines party that afternoon.

Friday night I spent making 18 hairbows, because I forgot Genevieve joined another cheer team!  I thought I was so ahead of the game, when Genevieve and I over Christmas day, spent a day making valentines bows for her teams in cheer.  And here I was staying up the night before anyway...

Saturday -

Genevieve had cheer from 9-3, and then she had a sleep over with a couple of cheer friends.  And guess what they did, drag down her mattresses into the living room and choreo a cheer routine until 7 pm.  Then I decided man these girls need to rest, so I suggested we watch a cheer movie!  So we watched Bring it On.  I am so glad I texted the moms and asked them beforehand.  Genevieve did tell me there was swearing in the movie, but she things stupid is a swear word, so I kinda didn't believe her.  Man there is a lot of swearing in that movie!  Oh well they watched it anyway.  The girls were so sweet and all slept in Genevieves bed and were all quite and asleep by 10.

Sunday - Sleep over ended at 12 we rested until 3 when we had our friends come over for a valentines dinner.  All four kids made stuffed peppers and brownies made form black beans.  We had an appetizer of guacamole and chips.  Nathan recieved a really cool chopper thing that you put your stuff in and pull a string!  He absolutely loves it and I think he is excited to use it to prepare food in future.  Kids also decorated and set the table.  It was wonderful!  And so yummy

Monday February 15

Jessica came in the morning and the kids learned about Matisse and completed a Matisse inspired project.

We then had lunch and took Nathan to his vision therapy, man have I ever told you how much I dislike driving.... 1 hour each way....it will be worth it, it will be worth it.  Nathan is doing really well, and is so motivated to do the exercises him self.  I cant believe I dont have to argue with him about doing it.

So I signed Genevieve up for a gymnastics class from 5-7 on Monday's, it is an advanced class and she went for the first time today.  At cheer she is finding they do not do enough strength training and she is really needing it to move on from where she is.  This class is in chilliwack and for 2 hours a week is only $60.  I am going to give it a few weeks and I think I will cancel Genevieve's semiprivate tumbling practice which is $20 per 1/2 hour.  I think she will end up getting more out of the 2 hour class.

Bellvue Cheer Competition

This weekend was an exciting weekend for us, we had Genevieve's international cheer competition in Bellvue, right by Seattle.  This was an exciting trip for Genevieve as this was her first large competition with her Y2 elite team.  She only competed with Y2 this competition as the club only sends the elite teams to this particular competition.

Friday we packed up and headed out of town, in our usual slow to get going pace.  I had brought school work for us to do on the way down but the only school work we did was the kids watched the DVD Canada a peoples history.  We also listened to a few chapters of a book on CD.   Nathan gets carsick and listening to the book did not go well for him.  Doing any schoolwork in the car is difficult for him, and then Jeff needed a nap, so I drove, so no more school work.

We arrived in Bellvue in time to check into our cheap hotel.  The whole team was staying at the same hotel which was great, but they had us all over the place, and the bed were double beds!!!  I am used to a king and half the time, I sleep in a king by myself.  I kept on having to remind myself that this hotel was $99 and included breakfast.  We went for a walk to discover where the convention centre was and find somewhere to eat.

When we got back some of her friends were there and we went to their rooms and they practiced cheer in the hallways ha ha.  Good times they will remember for a long time I am sure.

Saturday morning she had to be at the convention centre for 10 am, so it gave us time to get her ready and eat breakfast together.

Day 1 was amazing!!!!  They were awesome, a few bobbles and one basket toss did not go up but soooo good.

In the video, Genevieve starts out in the back she is the base on the right doing the basket toss.  She then moves to the Left hand side of the matt for the tjump-back handspring, backwalkover-backhandspring part.  she then is on the left handside doing an amazing partner stunt where she is lifting her flyier up, this is a new skill or her and there are only 3 out of the 6 partner stunts that can do this skill.  Next she moves to the front for jumps, and then over to the right handside for more jumps. next up is group stunts, genevieve is basing on the far right handside group. It is then time for tumbling, Genevieve does a backwalkover, backhandspring to the front of the matt, and does a summersault to the side.  She is then closer to the back right hand side doing a basket, roll toss.  Pyrimid she is the base first in the back group and then her group moves to the righthand side of the pyrymid, she is the base you can see on the far right closer to the front of the stage.  last is dance and she is on the left hand side of the floor for dance!  few can you follow her???

After the comp we went back to our room and had lunch and relaxed for a few hours.  Genevieve and I and a few other kids went back to watch the other valley teams perform, we then came back picked up jeff and headed out to eat at the cheesecake factory.  We had dinner with a few other families, so much fun for the girls.

Day 2

oh my we had to be at the convention centre for 7 am, and gigi had to be in full curls and lipstick!!!  ackk that is early

Day two did not go as well, turns out quite a few of the girls were sick including Genevieve and her flyier in the group stunt, the stunt where the flier fell, gigi caught her but still did not go up and major point deductions.

The girls were pretty disappointed but handled it well.  Judy their coach prepared them that they were not going to win this time, but they were to not cry, and accept the place they  placed.  She also wanted them to cheer for the other team that won, and they showed excellent sportsmanship.  It turns out they were only.1 from 1st place!!!  they would have easily won if day 2 went off like day 1  First place team had no deductions but Valley had a harder routine and a higher starting value.  High hopes for Genevieves team in future!

Monday

no school - Genevieve has slept the entire day, except waking up to throw up...

Nathan went to vision therapy
