January 18 - stop motion

Monday morning- first day of our new schedule

Nathan set two alarm clocks for himself and was on my room at 7:30 bright and cheery trying to get me out of bed.  Out of bed both Gigi and I got at 8 am.  Oatmeal was on the table at 8:30 and I started reading our book.  We finished My Side of the Mountain today.  Unfortunately it took us until 10 am to finish reading, I was planning on doing math from 9-9:45.  Can't believe how long it takes to read.  So it turns out, I wasn't supposed to finish reading today!!!  Ha ha oops, at least that frees up more time later this week!

Jessica and stop motion

Jessica asked if we can incorporate stop motion into one of our assignments for school.  I thought she was thinking would it be interesting to learn I said yes.  But she thought I meant yes I have a project in mind.  Anyway we were able to look and decide that instead of the final project they would complete a stop motion video about the food chain from our book.  Perfect tie in.  I love how Jessica can do this.  So today they made all their animals and scenery and next Monday they will film.  This is excellent as this means we can spend Tuesday and Thursday working on our newspaper articles, I know they will need the time.  This means we should have some spare time on Friday that we can use for Canadian studies.

this is a poster size board that Nathan and Genevieve painted for their backdrop.  You can see they also made trees and 3d affects

forest animals from clay

Math

After Jessica left, we ran late, the kids worked on math and are at the same time.  They both had a couple of questions left which I told them they would have to complete before they have their play date with Tyler and Cody.  Our plan was to watch the Latin DVD on the drive but our remote does not work and it would only play the first episode.

this worksheet had her looking at stock prices and looking at change in price, it was a little tricky because if it was a + change it meant that yesterdays price was actually less, so you had to do the opposite of what you thought

relating percent to fractions

thinking about percents and fractions

I was surprised at how easy Genevieve found this one.  I asked her to leave question 12 as we had to go and it would take too long

word problems she completed all the word problems today Monday the 18th

Should I be worried that she was able to figure out sale prices so easily, do you think she will be a shopper?

And yes she does do most calculations in her head.  She may scribble a little but she always adds the numbers in her head.

Vision therapy.  Therapy was good, he was given more exercises and some harder ones.

Play date and dinner with Tyler and Cody, we stopped by on the way home, and Nathan had brought his new RC with him so they all went out and played on the track Tyler and Cody have.  I am very grateful to have these friends in our lives.  Such kind and wonderful kids they all are together, and the parents are pretty awesome too :)

History of Canada timelines

I am excited to start these timelines, and hope that they are something they can look back on over the years.  Genevieve absolutely loves doing timelines, and the hands on learning like this.  Nathan it is hard to tell if he likes it, he seems to as he is doing it.

Nathan right, Genevieve left

Genevieve's she has to add a paragraph on the bering land bridge.  She wanted to add details and did not have time, she doesnt mind doing this kind of stuff in her spare time on Sundays

  1. Hi Marcy,

I really like the way you are letting Nathan complete some of his written output on the computer. I think his printing skills are improving, though!

    1. I think you are correct rachel! Although I notice he spelled bridge incorrectly. I know he can spell it but he has so many other things he is dealing with when he is printing :).
